Dear-17-Year-Old Ken

A letter still being written

If you’re new on my newsletter, my name is Kenneth, but you can call me Ken. In this special newsletter, I address my old self a letter. I know that the format is unusual but I promise you, it is worth the read.

Dear 17-Year-Old Ken

You have learned so much in 8 years.

You have grown in ways you never thought possible.

You have matured beyond your years.

Matured into a responsible young man.

Your road has been filled with ambush, and obstacles.

You have been handed rejection after rejection.

You have cried more times than you care to admit.

You have been miserable at times, and,

You’ve also got your heart broken more than once.

But guess what you did not do?

Give up.

You did not give up even when the odds were stacked against you.

You did not give up when you got stopped on the way to accomplish your dream.

You dreamed bigger. You dreamed better. You kept dreaming to stay awake.

You kept dreaming to not fall back asleep thinking about what was no more.

You have changed for the better.

You are patient, kind, and a an amazing listener.

You are changing the world, one person at a time.

You are a hardworking man Ken.

Working hard so that people can feel better.

Working hard so that you can feel better.

You are loved Ken.

You have an entourage.

You have a very intelligent, beautiful, and special someone in your life.

You have a purpose beyond the dream you lost.

You are a handyman, per se.

You are building a company so that people don’t feel alone when they’re going through something tough.

You remembered when you were bullied as a kid and you had no one to talk to.

You remembered those recess hiding in our classroom.

You remembered the insults, and the degrading comments.

You decided to use them to benefit others.

Dear 17-Year-Old Ken,

You are special, more so than you thought of yourself back then.

You are an advocate for those without a voice.

You are an advocate for those who have no one.

You are an advocate for those who gave up.

You are an advocate for mental health.

Dear 17-Year-Old Ken,

You came a long way.

You didn’t come this far to only go this far.

You have WAYS to go.

The success of your company, this New-York apartment you want to buy, marriage, family, the hundreds of millions of people you want to touch with your company.

And all those other things you’re trying to accomplish.

You still doubt yourself sometimes.

You still wonder when things are not so great sometimes.

But You got closer to God.

He is your friend now, and reassures you when you’re in doubt.

Dear 17-Year-Old Ken,

Hang on! The best is yet to come.

While writing this, I had to go deep down, and explore memories I had let go off for years. Memories that once brought me a lot of pain. Sometimes, I wonder what could have been if I had chosen a different path today. Will I still be building Strnger? Would I have been an advocate for mental health? These questions might never be answered. Beyond just building Strnger, looking back at the things I had to overcome to get to this point, this 17-year-old kid full of dreams but in too much pain to pursue them could never have dreamed for him to be there today helping people to not feel as alone as he once felt. Now I wonder what letter will I be writing to my 25-year-old self in 8 years.

If you have ever felt alone in your thoughts, or if you think that what you have been through is negligible at best, I want you to take a moment to remember how your older self were feeling at the time. How sad, lonely, desperate, you might have been feeling then, and look now. If you are here it means that you have overcome something you never thought was possible.

Write that letter to your own self, and realize how beautiful of a journey you have been on :)
